Foto: Library of Congress<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p>N\u00e4r <span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\">American Astronomical Association<\/span> m\u00f6ts i maj i \u00e5r i Boston, kommer dess synnerligen aktiva historiesektion att uppm\u00e4rksamma 100-\u00e5rsjubilaren AAVSO, <span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\">American Association of Variable Star Observers<\/span>.<\/p>\n<p>Det var 1911 som den astronomiintresserade \u00e5klagaren <strong>William Tyler Olcott<\/strong> drog ig\u00e5ng verksamheten, N\u00e4r AAVSO fick draghj\u00e4lp av Harvard College Observatory\u00a0 satte sig organsiationen v\u00e4ldigt snabbt och stabilt och \u00e4r i dag en v\u00e4rldsledande paraplyorganisation inom variabelf\u00e4ltet<\/p>\n<p>Intressant p\u00e5 Bostonm\u00f6tet \u00e4r belysningen av kvinnliga variabelobservat\u00f6rers insatser. Det b\u00f6rjade med <strong>Anne Sewell Young<\/strong> fr\u00e5n Mount Holyoke College, och med i Harvard-kotteriet var naturligtvis ocks\u00e5 legendaren <strong>Annie Jump Cannon<\/strong>, som sammanst\u00e4llde kataloger \u00f6ver variabler. Namne<strong>t Williamina Fleming<\/strong> \u00e4r f\u00f6rknippat med tidiga novauppt\u00e4ckter och 100-tals variabler och <strong>Antonia Maur <\/strong>var tidig expert p\u00e5 den spektroskopiska f\u00f6rm\u00f6rkelsevariabeln \u03b2 Aurigae<\/p>\n<p><strong>Margaret Walton Mayall, Florence Campbell Bibber,\u00a0 Dorrit Hoffleit <\/strong> \u00e4r andra f\u00e4rgstarka namn inom variabelforskningen &#8211; Hoffleit blev 100 \u00e5r och dog s\u00e5 sent som 2007.
