Saul Perlmutter ledde den ena gruppen som startade sina observationer redan 1988. Brian Schmidt ledde en konkurrerande grupp som satte ig\u00e5ng sina studier mot slutet av 1994, och d\u00e4r Adam Riess kom att spela en nyckelroll f\u00f6r uppt\u00e4ckten.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Grupperna t\u00e4vlade om att kartl\u00e4gga v\u00e4rldsalltet <\/strong>genom att finna de mest avl\u00e4gsna supernovorna. Tillsammans med sofistikerade teleskop p\u00e5 marken och i rymden, kraftfulla datorer och nya digitala bildsensorer (CCD, Nobelpriset i fysik 2009) \u00f6ppnade supernovorna p\u00e5 1990-talet m\u00f6jligheten att f\u00e5 de kosmiska pusselbitarna p\u00e5 plats.<br \/>\nI<strong> en s\u00e4rskild sorts utbrott<\/strong>, en supernova av typ Ia, exploderar en kompakt gammal stj\u00e4rna som \u00e4r tung som solen men liten som jorden. En enda s\u00e5dan supernova kan under n\u00e5gra veckor \u00f6vergl\u00e4nsa en hel galax. Sammanlagt hittade de tv\u00e5 forskargrupperna drygt 50 avl\u00e4gsna supernovor som verkade lysa svagare \u00e4n v\u00e4ntat. Det tydde p\u00e5 att universums utvidgning g\u00e5r allt snabbare.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Fallgroparna hade varit <\/strong>m\u00e5nga, s\u00e5 n\u00e4r resultaten kom blev forskarna faktiskt st\u00e4rkta av att b\u00e5da grupperna kommit fram till samma \u00f6verraskande slutsats.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.astb.se\/cassiopeiabloggen\/wp-content\/uploads\/2011\/10\/nobel_fysik_2011_3001.jpg\"><img decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter size-full wp-image-21451\" title=\"Illustration: Johan Jarnestad\/KVA\" src=\"https:\/\/www.astb.se\/cassiopeiabloggen\/wp-content\/uploads\/2011\/10\/nobel_fysik_2011_3001.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"300\" height=\"217\" \/><\/a><br \/>\n<strong>Att universum utvidgar sig alltsedan Big Bang<\/strong> f\u00f6r n\u00e4stan 14 miljarder \u00e5r sedan har varit k\u00e4nt i \u00e5rtionden. Men att utvidgningen accelereras \u00e4r h\u00e4pnadsv\u00e4ckande. Kommer accelerationen att forts\u00e4tta blir iskyla universums \u00f6de.<br \/>\n<strong>En ok\u00e4nd m\u00f6rk energi <\/strong>tros driva p\u00e5 accelerationen.
