D\u00e4rav de ber\u00f6mda &#8220;tungorna&#8221; i hans snittbild genom Vintergatan. Om dessa omr\u00e5den skrev han i <em>The Construction of the Heavens<\/em> 1785 under rubriken &#8220;An Opening in the Heavens&#8221; och hur hans lodningar gav allt st\u00f6rre utdelning ju n\u00e4rmare Vintergatans plan han kom med sitt 20-fotsteleskop f\u00f6r att sen g\u00e5 ner\u00e5t till n\u00e4stan ingenting med&#8230; &#8220;a very few pretty large stars excepted&#8221;.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.astb.se\/cassiopeiabloggen\/wp-content\/uploads\/2012\/01\/milky-way_Herschel-map.jpg\"><img decoding=\"async\" width=\"509\" height=\"386\" class=\"aligncenter size-full wp-image-25451\" style=\"width: 490px; height: 372px;\" title=\"Herschels vintergatsutsnitt med &quot;h\u00e5let&quot; t v.\" src=\"https:\/\/www.astb.se\/cassiopeiabloggen\/wp-content\/uploads\/2012\/01\/milky-way_Herschel-map.jpg\" alt=\"\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.astb.se\/cassiopeiabloggen\/wp-content\/uploads\/2012\/01\/milky-way_Herschel-map.jpg 509w, https:\/\/www.astb.se\/cassiopeiabloggen\/wp-content\/uploads\/2012\/01\/milky-way_Herschel-map-300x227.jpg 300w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 509px) 100vw, 509px\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>Herschel\u00a0 t\u00e4nkte sig en \u00f6ppning eller ett h\u00e5l p\u00e5 \u00e5tminstone fyra graders bredd mot Skorpionens stj\u00e4rnbild.<\/p>\n<p><strong>* I dag vet vi<\/strong> ju att dessa h\u00e5l i sj\u00e4lva verket \u00e4r interstell\u00e4ra gas- och stoftmoln som skymmer den bakomliggande stj\u00e4rnrikedomen, men om detta interstell\u00e4ra medium hade Herschel och hans samtida inte en susning. Herschel trodde rentav att dessa stj\u00e4rnor\u00a0 ursprungligen\u00a0 h\u00e4rr\u00f6rde fr\u00e5n h\u00e5let, som de allts\u00e5 dragits in fr\u00e5n.<\/p>\n<p>Citat:<br \/>\n&#8220;&#8230; would almost authorise a suspicion that the stars, of which it is composed, were collected from that place, and had left the vacancy&#8221;.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.astb.se\/cassiopeiabloggen\/wp-content\/uploads\/2012\/01\/william-herschel.jpg\"><img decoding=\"async\" width=\"150\" height=\"150\" class=\"alignleft size-thumbnail wp-image-25498\" style=\"width: 77px; height: 77px;\" src=\"https:\/\/www.astb.se\/cassiopeiabloggen\/wp-content\/uploads\/2012\/01\/william-herschel-150x150.jpg\" alt=\"\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.astb.se\/cassiopeiabloggen\/wp-content\/uploads\/2012\/01\/william-herschel-150x150.jpg 150w, https:\/\/www.astb.se\/cassiopeiabloggen\/wp-content\/uploads\/2012\/01\/william-herschel.jpg 296w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 150px) 100vw, 150px\" \/><\/a>Samma fenomen, samma typ av h\u00e5lighet s\u00e5g Herschel i n\u00e4rheten av M4, en annan klassisk\u00a0 stj\u00e4rnhop.<\/p>\n<p>Jag kan inte f\u00f6rneka att jag gillar hans, med utg\u00e5ngspunkt fr\u00e5n vad han kunde veta, eleganta teori. Den hade f\u00f6rst\u00e5s vunnit i styrka om han kring ALLA den g\u00e5ngen k\u00e4nda klotformiga stj\u00e4rnhopar kunde hitta \u00f6ppningar\/h\u00e5ligheter, men det gjorde han inte.<\/p>\n<p>Det notabla tycker jag annars \u00e4r att\u00a0 Herschel h\u00e4r ser kosmiska fenomen som skett \u00f6ver mycket l\u00e5ng tid. Stj\u00e4rnv\u00e4rlden var inte given fix och f\u00e4rdig, vilket inte heller\u00a0 Herschel, <strong>Immanuel Kant, Thomas Wright<\/strong> m fl 1700-tals-profiler trodde p\u00e5. Men det Kant filosoferade \u00f6ver i sin l\u00e4nsstol framf\u00f6r den mysiga\u00a0 brasan, f\u00e5ngade Herschel och <strong>Caroline Herschel<\/strong>, systern, upp under l\u00e5nga, kalla, el\u00e4ndiga, besv\u00e4rliga,\u00a0 observationsn\u00e4tter.<\/p>\n<p>Intressant \u00e4r f\u00f6rresten att William Herschels stj\u00e4rnlodningar nu kan attackeras i ett dataprogram signerat\u00a0 <a href=\"http:\/\/arxiv.org\/abs\/1112.3635 \">Todd Timberlake, en datakunnig Herschel-intresserad <\/a>som till\u00e5ter oss g\u00e5 i Herchels fotsp\u00e5r &#8211; men ocks\u00e5 att motbevisa honom med utg\u00e5ngspunkt fr\u00e5n dagens kunskap. Axiomen fr\u00e5n 1785 (stj\u00e4rnor \u00e4r lika ljusstarka och ligger lika l\u00e5ngt\u00a0 varandra, Herschels teleskop kunde n\u00e5 stj\u00e4rnsystemets gr\u00e4nser etc) skulle ju Herschel dessutom sj\u00e4lv omv\u00e4rdera in p\u00e5 1800-talet.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.astb.se\/cassiopeiabloggen\/wp-content\/uploads\/2012\/01\/messier-80.jpg\"><img decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter size-medium wp-image-25454\" title=\"Hershel trodde att hans f\u00f6rsvunna stj\u00e4rnor fanns i M80. Vi f\u00e5r &#8220;n\u00f6jas&#8221; med det som \u00e4r p\u00e5 g\u00e5ng, och fyra projekt lockar onekligen:<\/p>\n<p><strong>* Tvillingsonderna <\/strong>GRAIL-A och GRAIL-B g\u00e5r just nu in i omloppsbana runt m\u00e5nen.<\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-size: 12px;\"><span style=\"font-family: arial,helvetica,sans-serif;\"><strong>* Rymdsonden Cassini<\/strong> flyger v\u00e4ldigt n\u00e4ra Saturnusm\u00e5nen Enceladus i mars, april och i maj. Avst\u00e5ndet \u00e4r endast 75 kilometer.<br \/>\n<strong>* I juli har rymdsonden Dawn<\/strong> f\u00e5tt nog av asteroiden Vesta och drar vidare mot dv\u00e4rgplaneten Ceres.<br \/>\n<strong>* 6 augusti landar<\/strong> Marsfordonet Curiosity.<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n<h2>Fin julklapp i Heidelberg<\/h2>\n<p><span style=\"font-size: 12px;\"><span style=\"font-family: arial,helvetica,sans-serif;\">Nu har vi f\u00e5tt en ny astronomisk turistf\u00e4lla &#8211;<a href=\"http:\/\/www.haus-der-astronomie.de\/\"> Haus der Astronomie i Heidelberg p\u00e5 klassisk K\u00f6nigstuhladress<\/a>. Bygget st\u00e5r nu f\u00e4rdigt och har nyligen invigts<\/span><\/span>.<\/p>\n<p>Detta kommer verkligen att bli ett hem f\u00f6r regionens astronomiintresserade, skolor, kindergarten, planetarium, workshops, f\u00f6rel\u00e4sningar, h\u00e4r kommer\u00a0 att bedrivas en intensiv ut\u00e5triktad verksamhet.<\/p>\n<p>Huset har formen av en spiralgalax.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.astb.se\/cassiopeiabloggen\/wp-content\/uploads\/2012\/01\/PR_111216_1.jpg\"><img decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter size-medium wp-image-25483\" title=\"Nytt hem f\u00f6r Heidelbergs astronomiintreserade. P\u00e5 jorden kan denna forskning bidra i kampen mot tum\u00f6rsjukdomar.<\/p>\n<p>\u25ba F\u00f6r n\u00e5gra veckor sen kom en annan intressant nyhet, hur<a href=\"http:\/\/www.esa.int\/esaCP\/SEM01RAX9WG_index_0.html\"> ESA:s sofistikerade satellitbildsarkivering kan hj\u00e4lpa Vatikanens stora bibliotek<\/a> att digitalisera alla rara b\u00f6cker och manuskript i samlingarna.<\/p>\n<p>Systemet med\u00a0 FITS (&#8220;flexible image transport system&#8221;) anv\u00e4nds f\u00f6r att lagra tjugo \u00e5r gamla bilder och data fr\u00e5n rymden, och samma FITS-teknik testas nu i Rom. Vatikantbiblioteket tillkom 1475 och har en del rart n\u00e4stan 2000-\u00e5rigt material. Varje g\u00e5ng det plockas fram, riskerar det att f\u00f6rst\u00f6ras, och h\u00e4r medf\u00f6r satellittekniken en sorts &#8220;vinn-vinn&#8221;-princip:<\/p>\n<p>Vatikanens rariteter blir l\u00e4ttare tillg\u00e4ngliga f\u00f6r omv\u00e4rlden digitalt samtidigt som originalen kan bevaras utan att plockas fram och uts\u00e4ttas f\u00f6r d\u00e5lig luft, on\u00f6digt ljus m m.<\/p>\n<p>F\u00f6rr brukade vi skryta med teflonpannan f\u00f6r att visa p\u00e5 rymdfartens oerh\u00f6rda nytta.
