Det visar sig att <strong>John Herschel <\/strong>1836 noterade de f&ouml;rsta k&auml;nda skiftningarna, och d&auml;refter har variationerna observerats med allt noggrannare, allt mera sofistikerade hj&auml;lpmedel. Just d&auml;rf&ouml;r &auml;r det med stor sp&auml;nning vi ser fram mot de stora jord- och rymdbundna observatoriernas m&auml;tningar.\n<\/p>\n<p>\n\tP&aring;fallande &auml;r hur modern <strong>Frida Palm&eacute;r<\/strong> var i sin dr-avhandling 1939 med fokus p&aring; de oregelbundna variablerna, av vilka Betelgeuse var en. Hon k&auml;nde inte till de olika perioderna hos Betelgeuse men v&auml;l att stj&auml;rnan fladdrade (fotografiskt) mellan 1,2 och 1,8 magn. Hon var en av de f&ouml;rsta att diskutera interferensfenomenet. som gjorde att en oregelbunden variabels ljuskurva fick det sammantagna utseendet som den hade.\n<\/p>\n<p>\n\tDet har varit m&auml;rkligt tyst om Betelgeuse i v&aring;ra vanligaste massmedier, vilket &auml;r synd.&nbsp;H&auml;r ges ju&nbsp;ett sensationellt tillf&auml;lle f&ouml;r vanliga m&auml;nniskor att enkelt&nbsp;se ett annorlunda och ov&auml;ntat sk&aring;despel p&aring; himlavalvet.
