Foto: NASA\/JPL-Caltech\/UMD.<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p>Vad \u00e4r det f\u00f6r br\u00e4nsle som driver jetstr\u00e5larna i en komet som Hartley 2? <a href=\"http:\/\/www.sciencedaily.com\/releases\/2010\/11\/101110171430.htm\" target=\"_self\">Experterna har snabbsynat de tusentals bilder och spektrogram<\/a> som EPOXI-programmets Deep Sky-sond och dess tre huvudinstrument tog under kometpassagen f\u00f6r drygt en vecka sen, och det \u00f6verraskande\u00a0 svaret \u00e4r:<\/p>\n<p>* Torris.<\/p>\n<p>* Allts\u00e5 koldioxid i fast form.<\/p>\n<p>* C20 lyder den klassiska formeln.<\/p>\n<p>Ja, man talar till och med om &#8220;primordial torris&#8221;, eftersom den har med planetsystemets absolut allra\u00a0 f\u00f6rsta b\u00f6rjan att g\u00f6ra,<\/p>\n<p>EPOXI-projektet har en forskningschef som faktiskt heter <a href=\"http:\/\/www.sciencedaily.com\/releases\/2010\/11\/101110171430.htm\" target=\"_self\">Jessica Sunshine (!), och hon f\u00f6rklarar i en intervju<\/a> att man tidigare trott att det var vatten\u00e5nga som l\u00e5g bakom den utstr\u00f6mmande gasen. Men nu visar det sig att fryst koldioxid under ytan direkt f\u00f6rvandlas till gas n\u00e4r den hettas upp av solen. En process som kemister kallar sublimering (och som har massor av anv\u00e4ndningsomr\u00e5den h\u00e4r p\u00e5 jorden). Och d\u00e5 f\u00e5r vi dessa dramatiska utfl\u00f6den fr\u00e5n kometk\u00e4rnan.<\/p>\n<p>Av bilderna typ den ovan drar forskarna den logiska slutsatsen \u00e4r det \u00e4r koldioxiden, inte vattenmolekylerna, som drar med sig stoftpartiklarna fr\u00e5n k\u00e4rnan ut i kometens koma.<\/p>\n<p>Hartley 2-forskarna har tr\u00e4ffats denna vecka p\u00e5 University of Maryland, varifr\u00e5n EPOXI-projektet leds,\u00a0 f\u00f6r att f\u00f6rs\u00f6ka greppa kometens alla mysterier. Jag vet inte\u00a0 vad han tyckte var fel p\u00e5 den f\u00f6rsta versionen med Jane Fonda.
