N\u00e4r han var som mest aktiv f\u00f6r runt hundra \u00e5r sedan anade han sig till multiversum, universums expansion, den m\u00f6rka materien, galaxv\u00e4rlden f\u00f6rst\u00e5s och s\u00e5 &#8211; supernovorna: Ett av v\u00e5rt universums viktigaste verktyg att m\u00e4ta avst\u00e5nd, en &#8220;distansindikator&#8221; i Lundmarks spr\u00e5kbruk som idag blivit alla astronomers. I Stockholm, ute p\u00e5 Saltsj\u00f6badens Grand Hotell, arrangeras senare i augusti <a href=\"https:\/\/massivestars.org\/one-hundred-years-of-supernova-science\/\" title=\"\">en stor konferens p\u00e5 temat Knut Lundmarks och hans betydelse <\/a>f\u00f6r just supernovautforskningen. 1925 kom hans viktiga bidrag i Monthly Notices othe Royal Astronomical Society (<em>The Motions and Distances of Spiral Nebulae<\/em>), d\u00e4r vi f\u00f6r f\u00f6rsta g\u00e5ngen st\u00f6ter p\u00e5 det som senare kom att kallas supernovor<\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image size-full\"><a href=\"https:\/\/www.astb.se\/cassiopeiabloggen\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/07\/IMG_1478.jpg\"><img decoding=\"async\" width=\"768\" height=\"1024\" src=\"https:\/\/www.astb.se\/cassiopeiabloggen\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/07\/IMG_1478.jpg\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-97830\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.astb.se\/cassiopeiabloggen\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/07\/IMG_1478.jpg 768w, https:\/\/www.astb.se\/cassiopeiabloggen\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/07\/IMG_1478-225x300.jpg 225w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 768px) 100vw, 768px\" \/><\/a><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p>N\u00e5gra \u00e5r senare, 1932 (<em>The pre-Tychonic Novae<\/em>) , var han vad vi vet den f\u00f6rste att s\u00e4tta p\u00e5 pr\u00e4nt supernovorna &#8211; \u00e4nnu hade inte <strong>Walter Baade<\/strong> och <strong>Fritz Zwicky <\/strong>satt begreppet p\u00e5 pr\u00e4nt, Lundmark kan ha h\u00f6rt talas om det borta p\u00e5 observatorierna i Californien och d\u00e4r f\u00e5ngat upp och f\u00f6r f\u00f6rsta g\u00e5ngen satt fenomenet p\u00e5 plats. P\u00e5 Lundmarks tid f\u00f6r hundra \u00e5r sedan b\u00f6rjade fler och fler novor uppt\u00e4ckas i M31-systemet, i dag har drygt 1000 noterats &#8211; fler \u00e4n i v\u00e5r egen Vintergata. Ikoniska S Andromeda syntes 1885 (bl a fr\u00e5n Lunds obsis, <strong>Nils Dun\u00e9r<\/strong> f\u00f6ljde stj\u00e4rnsm\u00e4llen), s\u00e5 det borde vara dags snart. I Vintergatan har vi inte observerat n\u00e5got liknande p\u00e5 \u00f6ver 400 \u00e5r, Keplers supernova 1604.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Bonusbilder p\u00e5 Keplers supernova &#8211; en klassisk vit dv\u00e4rg-explosion &#8211; fr\u00e5n 1604, en praktfull &#8220;SN rest&#8221; fotograferad <a href=\"https:\/\/chandra.harvard.edu\/photo\/2013\/kepler\/more.html\" title=\"\">med r\u00f6ntgenk\u00e4nsliga Chandra-sonden<\/a>.
