Bilden som slår allt

Det är en smaksak vilken bild av alla de hundratals bilder som strömmat ner från Artemis II under resan jorden-månen t-o-r. Jag faller för kraterbilden av Mare Orientale aka Orientalis med jorden i bakgrunden, Orientalis är en gigantisk nedslagskrater, somliga kallar den pga storleken för bassäng.

• Scientific Significance: Formed roughly 3.8 billion years ago, it is the youngest major impact basin on the Moon. It provides a pristine example of a multi-ring basin, allowing scientists to study how massive impacts shape planetary surfaces.
• Observation by Crew: Astronauts used Nikon cameras and their geology training to document the basin, noting its color, albedo, and topography, particularly the bright rings contrasting with the dark interior.
• Provisional Naming: Near the Orientale basin, the crew identified two craters, tentatively naming them “Integrity” and “Carroll” (the latter in honor of Commander Reid Wiseman’s late wife, Carroll Taylor Wiseman).
